As someone who loves a good historical fiction novel, I was immediately drawn to Kingdom of Ash and Soot The Order of the Crystal Daggers, Book 1. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! From start to finish, I was completely engrossed in the story of Isabelle, a young woman torn between her duty as a spy and her desire for freedom. I couldn’t put this book down and neither could my friend Sally. She’s not typically a fan of this genre, but after seeing how absorbed I was in the story, she just had to give it a try. Let me start by saying that I am NOT a morning person. But as soon as I cracked open Kingdom of Ash and Soot The Order of the Crystal Daggers, Book 1, all thoughts of hitting snooze were forgotten. This book is so gripping and full of action that I couldn’t help but stay up way past my bedtime just to see what happened next.
I may or may not have also developed a major crush on one (or maybe two) of the characters cough Jack cough. But hey, who can resist a charming rogue with an airship? Not me! And let’s not forget about Isabelle herself – she is one badass lady who doesn’t need anyone to save her. She can handle herself just fine thank you very much.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for an exciting read with strong characters, beautiful writing, and plenty of swashbuckling action (seriously though – there are sword fights!), then do yourself a favor and pick up Kingdom of Ash and Soot The Order of the Crystal Daggers, Book 1 ASAP.
